Okay, so pineapples themselves don’t technically cure cancer. At least, not that we’re aware of, but…you can cure cancer…when you sign up for The Pineapple Classic 5K! What’s that, you ask? Good question!
The Pineapple Classic 5k is our newest event, run by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise money for a cure for blood cancers! This will be our first year putting on this event, so we’re very excited, especially since it will involve costumes, obstacles, luaus, and curing cancer, all in one extremely fun day! Need more info? Read on!
This outdoor adventure race, to be held on May 21st, 2011 at Santa Teresa Park, challenges teams of two or four, who must navigate a 5K course riddled with obstacles and physical challenges. Race concludes with a post-race luau and beer garden, open to all participants. Registration and additional information can be found at http://svmb.pineapple.llsevent.org/.
This inaugural event hopes to exceed 500 participants and raise over $100,000 for LLS. The race is open to any and all ages 8 and up, who have a strong sense of camaraderie and adventure, who relish getting a bit muddy, and who wish to join the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers. The registration fee is $60 for individual, $110 for a 2-person team, or $200 for a 4-person team, and all participants receive a technical t-shirt and entrance to the post-race luau. Entertainment will be provided by various Hawaiian groups from 9:45am-1pm. The venue, the pueblo, will be turned into one big beach scene complete with sand and a volleyball court.
Want in? Registration is open now, so sign up, or contact Keith Marin for more information at Keith.Marin@lls.org or (408) 490-3157.
All proceeds from event registration and fundraising go directly to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
